If you want to improve your website’s SEO make sure you are not doing these 3 things.
Don’t pay for links back to your site.
Thumbtack.com used to have you pay for top listing on their site. A number of sites used to do that. If you are paying for links back to your site it is not a good thing.
Google puts it this way. “Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site’s ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. This includes any behavior that manipulates links to your site or outgoing links from your site.”
Don’t use a ton of keywords.
Keyword stuffing as it is known to be called, doesn’t flow well and is hard to read. You should use a keyword in your title and in use it in your text a few times, but don’t try to cram in 30 keywords to your text.
Don’t keyword match domain names.
I used to work for a guy that would spend thousands of dollars buying domain names to make sure he had all the domains with his keyword in it. For example startingabusinessin-state.com He had 50 domains, one for each state. I used to tell him that Amazon’s domain name doesn’t have any keywords in it and that it doesn’t matter that your domain name is completely different than your keywords. Now we know that howtostartabusiness.com is not as good as legalzoom.com
